Our Business Perspectives masterclass will take place on Thursday 23 February 2017 at 12:00 – 17:00 in London. Join Professor Simon Lee, Professor of Law and Director of the Citizenship and Governance Strategic Research Centre at The Open University and other leading experts, who will use sport as a metaphor to explore governance.

In this masterclass, Professor Simon Lee will base his presentation on latest current affairs in the sporting world. We will explore multiple facets of governance and how, in an ever changing world, sport and business have similar qualities. Professor Lee will also explain how lessons from sport may be applied across business.

  1. I attended this event, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

    Thinking back to what Professor Simon Lee said about the Rolls Royce ‘incident’, and his subsequent invitation to consider the acronym T-R-U-S-T, I suspect I said too little.

    Firstly, I’d assume an organisation the size of Rolls Royce has its own ‘intranet’, specifically for the use of employees. That it chose to post such a presentation on the internet, suggests to me that its primary audience was its shareholders rather than its employees.

    Secondly, I wondered why ‘ethics’ should be hidden under the heading of Sustainability, rather than in a more prominent position such as Values and Standards perhaps. This only reinforced my first point, that Rolls Royce have a stance on ethical standards, but only if you search for it.

    Lastly, I thought the aconym was insulting and adds little value. In my opinion, the governance of any organisation should be embedded in its culture, values and standards. Personally, I don’t need to be advised to have integrity, self discipline and moral courage, or act with accountability and transparency in order to win trust, because that’s my brand.
